With a complete-game pitching gem (9 SO / 4 H) from Jason (The Spark Plug) Thompson along with timely hitting by the entire "Rat-Pack", especially "Rat for a Day" catcher, Randy Beels (3 RBI), the River Rats rode the cheese wheel to a 9-4 victory on a hot summer day.
Finally we get off the schnide and stopped the losing streak!!!
It was a good night for the Rats as the bats were SCHMOKIN HOT along with some great pitching from Jason (The Spark Plug) Thompson and Kyle (Meat) Gausman on a hot summer night but as Chip (on my shoulder) said " Hell has frozen over tonight" because John (Gramps) Barry picked-off a runner at third base with a "laser-beam" throw and Steve (Wicked Faaah) Grenier finally got his first hit of the season with a long-ball double and went 2-4...
Great defense by Logan (Flash) Capps, big bro Mike (The Preacher) Capps, Dave (I'll pitch forever) Carpenter and Mike (9 Fingers) Haywood steadied the raft and allowed the Rats to make it home to the sewers with a much needed win...
The thought of going undefeated never crossed our minds; however giving up 8 unearned runs after a solid pitching effort from Kyle (Meat) Gausman certaintly didn't help our cause against the Engineers who got a complete game gem from #31 McCumber.
Back to the sewers for the Rats to wallow in filth and self pity then it's a much needed practice planned for Saturday and another battle against the Brunswick Barons on Sunday.
